Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:37-39
"The more I know God, the more I love God." - unknown
At HFC we believe it is important to love both God and our neighbors - everyone around us. Since this is a mandate from the mouth of Jesus we believe that all believers ought to participate in this calling. Crosstraining courses are developed in tune with these two commands - the commands that summarize all of our message. For generations the pyramid has been used to visualize a vivid reality in our lives: as both you and I (Me and Others) move closer to God we will inevitably move closer to each other as well, therefore falling in line with what Jesus said is the Greatest Commandment(s).
What kind of courses are there?
Courses designed to help advance your knowledge and love of God include those like: Survey of New Testament, Christ in Me, TREK, and Christian Worldview.
Courses designed to help advance your knowledge of Others and how to love them more include those like: the My Faith At Work series, Love Talk, and Ready for Heaven. General Love Others courses are available as well as courses that are geared to those in different stages of life. Our church is made up of four generations, all bringing different life needs to the table. In light of this we have developed courses geared towards specific life needs, such as Ready for Heaven (the Builder Generation). We are continuing to develop courses for all generations. While these courses have specific targets they are open to all generations.
How does the schedule work?
We urge you to
broaden your knowledge and love of God and others by
actively participating in Crosstraining courses.
Crosstraining is set up similar to a school calendar with
semesters and quarters. Most courses are 6 weeks long
= one quarter. Others are 12 weeks long = one
semester, and have a break half way through. Still
others are offered in a one day seminar and are a great way
to get a lot in a hurry. Sunday evening courses begin
at 6pm. For Saturday seminars, see individual seminar details.
What courses should I take?
If you are trying to figure out what courses to take we suggest taking at least one "Love God" and one "Love Others" course per calendar year. If you have never taken a course we suggest starting with Membership/PLACE as it will help you understand HFC and help guide your path of future courses that would be most beneficial for you.
